John Lewis’s story

John Lewis Thunderheart was born in a slaughterhouse. His mom, Love, never made it out. Because of the stress and chaos around them—and because his mom was so sick—he did not receive enough colostrum to build his immune system. He came to us orphaned at a week old, fighting for his life with pneumonia.

To protect him from the extreme summer heat, we brought him into our house, where he could have a clean, cool environment and round-the-clock nurturing. With veterinary care, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, nebulizer and oxygen therapy, probiotics, nourishing food, and lots of love, he slowly recovered.

John Lewis grew strong and healthy. He loves to play with his best friend, Sky the dog, and he will live at The Gentle Barn as an ambassador for animals everywhere.
