Teaching People Kindness and Compassion to Animals, Each Other and our Planet.

The Gentle Barn rescues animals from severe abuse and neglect who are too old, sick, lame, or scared to be adopted into homes. We are sanctuary to horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, peacocks, emus, cats and dogs. Once rehabilitated, the animals help us give hope and inspiration to children with the same stories.

A Gentle Holiday Rescue

Someone bought a pig for their family to eat for Christmas in Washington. Unexpectedly she gave birth to eight tiny babies. The family no longer had the heart to eat her and instead is giving us the opportunity to rescue them and bring them home to The Gentle Barn. Ellie, Jay & their daughter Cheyanne drove from California to Washington state on Christmas morning to get them and bring them home. They are now back and The Gentle Barn and you can visit them on Sundays in California.

The Gentle Barn has rescued many pigs from slaughter over the last 20 years, but this is the first time they have been able to rescue a family of pigs.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in helping name the babies. Their names are
  • Manorah (Mother Pig)
  • Blitzen
  • Dreidel
  • Gingerbread
  • Holly
  • Miracle
  • Mistletoe
  • Tinsel
  • Noelle
