The Inside Scoop: Savannah in California

I learned about The Gentle Barn through my boss at Derma e skincare because Derma e has worked with and sponsored the Gentle Barn in the past. When I learned about this incredible organization, I dragged my mom with me to come visit the first chance I got. I fell in love with the cows immediately, having spent time around them in the past on my grandparents’ property in Montana. When I started volunteering, I was extremely grateful to be a part of the cow crew because I felt that these animals made the greatest impression on me and I understood them more than any other animal. During my second week of volunteering, I was reunited with Lucy, who made the sweetest impression on me when I visited the first time and I fell in love with her after five short hours. Until meeting Lucy, I didn’t realize that cows could have such beautiful and vibrant personalities, but she has shown me that all creatures have an inherently kind soul. Weeks later Lucy recognizes me and snuggles me when I sit down and lean against her. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to spend my Sundays with Lucy, as she continues to teach me unconditional love and patience.

"Because Animals is a small company with a big mission: to create nutritious pet food without ever harming any animals or the environment. We believe that factory farming has no place in pet nutrition, which is why all of Because Animals' products are made without slaughtering animals. "

"Our ultimate goal is to end the raising and slaughtering of farmed animals to feed our pets.
Until we get to that point, we are so very grateful there are sanctuaries like The Gentle Barn’s three locations to give refuge to abused, tormented, neglected and suffering animals who deserve so much more from the world."
