Maybelle and her son are settling in nicely at The Gentle Barn, TN. They have become very close with Dudley and Destiny and they all act as one big, happy family. Maybelle is the matriarch and brings maturity into the clan. Her son brings an air of fun and joy while he explores and plays with everything, as his mom watches closely. Dudley and Destiny have happily accepted the role of aunt and uncle and play with the baby gently. After breakfast each day, they all graze and play in the pasture. Later on, they lie in the sun together and meditate.
When they first came To The Gentle Barn, Maybelle and her son were quite afraid of us. When we have animals that are frightened and don’t want anyone to pet them, we make sure no one pets them. That way they come to see that no one wants anything from them and they can drop their defenses. With no one reaching out to touch them, they learn to trust and approach us in a very short time.
Maybelle and her son had their very first “open to the public” Saturday last week and did great. They watched as Dudley hugged everyone and were soon approaching our guests to sniff and lick them. The baby chewed peoples’ shoelaces, tried to eat visitors’ hair and made everyone smile. We cannot wait until our guests are able to pet and hug Maybelle and her son. I don’t think it’ll take too long.
We need to bring donations into The Gentle Barn to help cover our costs of feed, vet care, and operations for two locations. Also, our new baby needs a name! Please support The Gentle Barn by donating $25 and submit a potential name. You can name the baby in honor of a loved one or just come up with a great name. We will run the naming raffle until the end of March. At the end of March, we will pick a name at random and announce it. Please support us and get a chance to leave a legacy at The Gentle Barn. We cannot do this work without you!
