By Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn
This month we celebrate the anniversary of rescuing Dakota Rey. Dakota
Rey was born on a 3,000 acre beef ranch and orphaned at only a few weeks
old after her mom had a tragic accident. By the time she was discovered
she was already weak, frail and terrified. She was going to be sent to
slaughter, but we were able to bring her home to The Gentle Barn
instead. We spent months breathing the life back into her and she
finally recovered and learned to trust people. Dakota Rey is now two
years old, big, healthy and very happy.
She is the cow on the cover of our founder, Ellie Laks’ book, “My Gentle
Barn, a place where animals heal and children learn to hope”, available
for presale now and for purchase wherever books are sold on March 25th.
