By Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn
Blossom was rescued from the animal shelter where her mom was put to sleep. Blossom was about to follow the same fate, but we were there at the right time and able to take her home to The Gentle Barn instead. Blossom was very depressed for many weeks but finally, after lots of cuddling and letting her know we would be her family, she opened up, relaxed and found her joy again.
Blossom had severe food allergies and for months we tried different things for her to eat, but it would not get better. Her tummy and toes were bright pink and she itched constantly. At one point, it got so bad that she almost bit her tail off and needed stitches. For many months, we worked with our holistic vet to get to the root of the problem. We gave her weekly acupuncture, got rid of all the grains in her diet, and finally got her to the point where she could eat quinoa, sweet potato and other vegetables. She began to gain weight and did not itch anymore. It was a lot of effort, but Blossom was worth it and we love having her as part of our gentle family. Blossom turned a year old this week; Happy First Birthday!
