Read Wilbur's Story (In Memoriam)
Wilbur was rescued from severe physical abuse. He was smashed over the back with a chair and was permanently crippled by his "person."
He was then sent to a pig rescue where the other pigs beat him up. The Gentle Barn was asked to take him in and give him a home for life. At The Gentle Barn he found companionship, safety and comfort and knew that he would never be hurt again.
He loved tummy rubs and would roll over with the slightest tickle. He was sweet, small and gentle; the kids loved him. His days were filled with adoration, affection, and companionship; he had finally found peace.
Wilbur lived with us until the very old age of thirteen when he developed severe arthritis. It had such a crippling effect on him that after just a few weeks he could not walk. We tried everything; pain medication, massage therapy, Glucosamine, and nutritional supplements, all to no avail. When the suffering grew intolerable we helped Wilbur out of his body. He left peacefully.
Wilbur touched so many hearts while he was with us. He was such a gentle soul; we were blessed to have him in our lives and think of him often.
