Read Violet's Story (In Memoriam)
Violet came in with almost 100 rescued animals from a severe cruelty case that we investigated for four years. She was terribly ill with zoonotic diseases, and we spent months taking her temperature, giving her antibiotics, pain meds, and painting the picture of what her beautiful life would look like at The Gentle Barn once she healed.
It took a long time of intense veterinary care, round-the-clock attention of volunteers and staff, and lots of love, but Violet slowly healed and recovered. She spent 14 years at The Gentle Barn with a big, beautiful sheep family learning to trust and forgive. She rested under shade trees and closed her eyes to meditate in the sun. She followed her sheep family around and always got Organic Hay and yummy bedtime cookies.
Violet was anywhere from 17 to 20 years old when she suddenly stopped eating and seemed off. The veterinary exam and ultrasounds showed that her lower intestines, spleen, and liver were shutting down due to old age. To prevent her from suffering, we helped her out of her body as we thanked her for all the wonderful beauty she added to our Barnyard and for being so brave and courageous in her journey.
Violet did what she came to do: she forgave, trusted, found peace, love, and healing. It was an honor to know her, and we are so proud of her!!
