Tulip the chicken, living in sanctuary at The Gentle Barn California

Tulip was rescued in 2009 when we found her and her mom under a bush with fourteen other babies. We didn’t know who they belonged to, but we did know that if they stayed wild they would surely have been eaten by predators. So we carefully picked them all up and brought them to live with us as part of our family. Tulip and the others grew up in our barnyard and have always been sweet, kind, and gentle. Her mom and siblings have all passed away of old age over the years, and Tulip is the last one left. We guess she loves it here with us and we don’t want to see her go either. Tulip has not been genetically modified for the egg industry or the meat industry, and is what the original, unmodified chicken is supposed to look like: small, only lays several eggs a year, and will hopefully live a long time.
