Read Sunrise's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Sunrise was one of 45 chicks rescued from a crowded, filthy pet store. They all came to The Gentle Barn to live the good life, and one by one pass away from old age. Sunrise loved it here so much that she outlived all her siblings. Chickens typically live 7-10 years, but Sunrise stayed with us for 14 years! In the last year Sunrise developed severe degenerative arthritis. We gave her acupuncture, energy healing, pain medication, and Jill and Joan CBD to keep her mobile and comfortable. In the last few months Sunrise could no longer walk but still wanted to stay. We got her a wheel chair to eat and rest, we brought her to sleep in the office to stay warm, and had volunteers hold her everyday in the sunshine and sing to her. Sunrise absolutely loved her life here and did not want to ever leave. But sadly her joints finally had deteriorated so much that she could not get comfortable and we had to make the hard decision to help her out of her body so she would not suffer. May all animals everywhere get to live this picture perfect life !
