Read Spirit's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Spirit was rescued from Thanksgiving. Along with two other turkeys, they come home to The Gentle Barn scared. With time, patience, and lots of love, organic fruits and vegetables, temperature-controlled bedrooms, and beautiful green pastures during the day, they slowly forgave their past and learn to trust humans. Once Spirit trusted people, she allowed our guests to cuddle with her, kiss her fuzzy pink head while she fell asleep in their laps.

Because turkeys are genetically engineered to grow very big, very fast to be slaughtered at only 12 weeks old, by the time they’re full-grown, they have mobility issues and respiratory issues. Sadly, when Spirit was only 2 1/2 years old, it became harder for her to walk, her body started shutting down, and she passed away quickly from organ failure.

We will forever remember Spirit's beautiful song as she chirped happily in the barn, her peaceful face as she closed her eyes and rested in the sunshine, and her beautiful life-altering cuddles that touched us all. At The Gentle Barn, we work every day to create a Gentle World. We’re all turkeys everywhere can have the life and the love that spirit received at The Gentle Barn.
