Read Spencer's Story (In Memoriam)

Spencer was rescued along with his sister from the animal shelter on his last day before he was killed. He was the quintessential dog: loyal, intelligent, patient, and loving. He was gentle with children and a strong father figure to other dogs. When we would bring in rescue dogs he would lovingly teach them how to behave. He was proud and regal yet he would play chase for hours. our fondest memories of Spencer were of him running down the beach, his ears flapping in the wind, tail extended, and a huge smile on his face.

Spencer got cancer at the age of ten. He fought hard and strong, always more concerned with us then himself. But in the end the struggle was too much for even him to bear. Spencer died at home, peaceful and dignified.

When we think of Spencer it is not the thin, old, weary body that we saw at the end, but rather the young invigorated Spencer running on the beach; so full of life.

Thank you Spencer for teaching us strength.
