Socks was about to be euthanized at an animal shelter after being adopted and returned three times because she had so much energy. She could get over an eight foot fence, was completely nocturnal, and had more energy than the average home could handle. Fortunately for her we brought her home to The Gentle Barn where she had all the room she needed to run and play, all night if necessary. She could be exactly as she was and we didn't have to contain her or control her. Not only did Socks bring much joy into our household, but she was a big mentor to the at risk kids we hosted that knew all too well what it felt like to be rejected for who they were. Socks inspired them that eventually they could find a family and friends who would accept them exactly as they were. We had a glorious life with Socks taking her camping, hiking, playing in the snow, white water rafting, and on a cross country road trip from california to Tennessee with a turkey. She also came with us to open up The Gentle Barn Missouri. Socks had a great sense of humor, loved to play, was gentle with everyone she met, loved to flirt with big boy dogs, and always made us laugh. Socks passed away at seventeen years old from stomach cancer. She left her body with her family by her side thanking her for every magical day she gave us and for the tremendous way she loved us. We were so lucky to have known and loved her!
