Read Rosey's Story (In Memoriam)
Rosey was one of our very first chickens we rescued at the start of The Gentle Barn Tennessee location. We brought Rosey and his sister, Jessie's Girl to be companions for our rooster, Rick Springfield. As they grew, it became clear that Rosey was a male and could not live together with Rick. We separated them, but Rosey was lonely and needed a sense of purpose. When we were told of a chicken who jumped off a transport truck and needed rescue, we didn't hesitate and brought her home for Rosey. It was love at first sight. Rosey was devoted, and protective, and lived solely to serve her. He found treats for her to eat, escorted her around the barnyard to explore, and laid faithfully beside her when she laid an egg. Rosey outlived Peppermint Patty but embraced a second chance at love when he met Coal. He was just as demonstrative and full of life the second time around. Rosey's story is a fairy tale, filled with love, purpose, and devotion. May all animals everywhere get to fall in love, live in sanctuary, and pass away gently when their bodies are ready.
