Read Rita's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Rita came from a family who could no longer keep her safe or care for her. We were delighted to offer her the protection and the love that she deserved. Rita was kind, loving, and gentle, and often fell asleep in our arms when we held her. She ate with enthusiasm, scratched in the dust with glee, and rested in the shade with her sister Mildred, and partner, Koa. Chickens live till about 7-10 years. Rita was eleven! She passed away peacefully in her sleep of old age, surrounded by her family. Rita opened hearts around the world to the affection, intelligence, and magic of chickens and will be sorely missed. We are so grateful to have known and loved her!
