Read Rascalina's Story (In Memoriam)
Rascalina was someone’s treasured riding horse and they had many adventures together. Once she was older however and could no longer carry anyone she still needed a purpose. Rascalina was donated to the Gentle Barn to be taken care of for the rest of her life, but to also have an amazing purpose healing at risk, inner city, and special needs children in our programs.
Rascalina would hold still for special needs children so they could brush, pet, or hug her. And she greeted each school field trip we hosted. Rascalina would walk into the middle of a group of children and allow them all to hug her. She always took carrots gently out of even the smallest of hands. For over a decade Rascalina worked with us to soften the toughest gang members, to witness the most lost children, and to heal the most broken adults. Rascalina doled out unconditional love to all of us.
Rascalina passed away at the age of thirty-two after losing her battle with founder. She had a rich, full, loved, important life. She was a blessing, an honor, and our miracle! Rascalina will be part of us forever!
