Read Penelope's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Penelope was used for breeding so her offspring could be sold for slaughter. When she got older and could no longer breed, she was "useless" to her owners, but instead of going to slaughter herself, we got to take her home to The Gentle Barn to live out the rest of her life with us. Penelope was an angel! Everything she did was done with an angelic softness and sweetness, from the way she walked slowly by, chirped so lovingly, and the way she would stand in water in the summer, close her eyes, and spread her wings in pure heavenly bliss. We were lucky to have known her and had her grace our barnyard! Penelope passed away from old age, surrounded by her friends, after having had breakfast. They say that the enlightened leave suddenly and quickly, and that definitely applies to our Penelope. She will bring a warm smile to our lips for the rest of our lives each time we think of her.
