Read McKenna Rockett's Story (In Memoriam)
McKenna Rockett was rescued from Thanksgiving. Filthy and terrified, it took months to get her healthy and happy. McKenna Rockett soon became the love of our barnyard. She learned how to trust and would lay down for people to pet her. She loved snuggling in people's laps and would close her eyes and fall asleep. She was always gentle and kind, and she helped open people's hearts to the intelligence and affection of turkeys so perhaps one day soon, turkeys will know gentleness and kindness from us.
Because turkeys are genetically engineered to get very big, very fast, so they can be slaughtered at 12 weeks old, by the time they are fully grown at 2 they either cannot walk and have to be helped out of their bodies, or have heart attacks. Our McKenna Rockett passed away in her sleep of heart failure and we gather peace in knowing that at least she left easily. We will always miss her and carry her in our hearts.
