Read Luke Skywalker's Story (In Memoriam)
Luke Skywalker was rescued from Thanksgiving in 2015 with his sister and brother. They were terrified of humans but quickly settled into life at The Gentle Barn Tennessee. They followed each other around, ate in tandem, and got very excited about their favorite treats of corn, berries, and grapes. Once the boys hit sexual maturity, they started fighting with each other as turkeys are a patriarchal society with only one male who protects all the females and babies. We transported his brother, Payten Manning to our Missouri location leaving Lue Skywalker to live with his sister, Heather, and our other birds. Luke protected his ladies, puffed his feathers up, and strutted around for us all to admire, and was a gentleman. Luke lived for ten years and had the life that all animals deserve. He passed away peacefully in his sleep just before Thanksgiving, giving us all so much to think about. We can be kinder, we can love more deeply, we can give more, and we can protect animals like Luke who have so much to teach us!
