A hero was at a gas station and saw a truck full of baby pigs that were going to be fattened up for slaughter. He could see that the piglets were hot and dehydrated and noticed one at the very back who was the smallest, completely lethargic and unable to even get to the water the man was spraying on them. Knowing he had to do something to help, he asked if he could buy the small one who was not moving. The man sold him the piglet, and the hero took her home where him and his wife made an amazing little spot for Lillie to stay until they could find her a home. The couple had visited us 6 weeks before and quickly contacted us about giving her a home. We said yes, and they hopped in their car and drove 9 hours from Illinois that same day to bring her down to us. Lillie is only 6 weeks old and barely weened from her mother. She still needs to be bottle-fed, and was very badly sunburned when she arrived. Within about 1 hour of arriving at The Gentle Barn she knew things were going to get better though. She started taking her bottles and climbing into our laps to cuddle. Lillie will spend the rest of her life with us at The Gentle Barn Tennessee teaching people how intelligent, affectionate and loving pigs are. We know she is going to continue to change lives and hopefully one day there will be no trucks of piglets to be rescued.
