Jethro was born in a dairy and taken from his mom at only a day old to be processed for veal. Luckily, he was rescued instead and raised by a woman who had many other animals. When Jethro was seven years old, his caregiver died suddenly in a tragic accident, and we were asked to take him to The Gentle Barn, where he would have more room, activity, and attention. Jethro had never met other cows before and soon had a large bovine family that played, rested, groomed, and meditated together every day. He had never met children before, and when our guests arrived on his very first open Sunday, Jethro was fascinated by these tiny humans. He watched intently as they walked around, hugged our other cows, and spoke to him with their little voices. By our second open Sunday, Jethro was already a pro, holding still while visitors brushed, petted, and hugged him. He loves the attention and the purpose, and has chosen to become a cow hug therapist in our programs to help hurting humans. Jethro is an extremely sweet, curious, and kind gentleman, and we are fortunate to have him!
