Irma the cow, living in sanctuary at The Gentle Barn California
Irma was used for a sport called "roping" where people chase small cows on horseback to rope them and catch them. The people did not know that she was pregnant. When she had her baby, their plan was to get rid of the baby and continue roping Irma. To keep the family intact and preserve the baby's innocence, we negotiated their release and brought them home to the safety of The Gentle Barn where they will live together for the rest of their lives. Irma most likely had babies taken from her before and probably assumed they would again, so she seemed aloof and detached from her son. In the Gentle Barn's Sun Chlorella Healing Center nursery, she realized that she could keep him, bonded with him, and began to play, nurse, groom, and protect him. One day soon, may all animals keep, raise, and love their babies!
