Read Esther's Story (In Memoriam)
Esther was rescued along with ten siblings from a very busy road. Neighbors had no idea where they came from, and after knocking on all doors could not find anyone to whom they belonged. We brought them home to The Gentle Barn, found homes for the males so they each could become king of his own flock, and kept the females to live with us and our male turkey. Though they were wild, they quickly became very affectionate, racing to us for treats and affection.
Esther was a very independent turkey. Most of the girls stuck close to our male turkey, Peyton Manning but Esther was adventurous and was perfectly happy to explore on her own for a while and then come back to her flock with stories of what she found. Esther passed away very suddenly, unexpectedly, and unexplainably. Our avian experts are still baffled as to why she passed. She will forever be loved and missed greatly. We were so fortunate to know and love her while she was here.
