Read Enid's Story (In Memoriam)

Wild turkeys are smaller and live for about 25 years. Scientists have taken the DNA of a wild turkey and genetically engineered it to create a man made, domestic turkey that is designed to get very big, very fast so they can be slaughtered when they are babies at only 12 weeks old. When we rescue them from Thanksgiving and they grow till 2 like they are supposed to, they end up huge and very shortly after cannot walk anymore. The massive weight pushes on the lungs and the heart and they have trouble breathing as well.

Enid was such a turkey and sadly she one day last week stopped being able to walk. We rushed her to the hospital and did everything we could to help her, but sadly there was nothing they could do. Enid was simply too big to walk.We are so sad to see her go and carry her in our hearts always. But we are so happy that she was not slaughtered by cruel hands, but instead got to spend some time with us being honored, loved and wanted.
