Read Drew's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Drew was being sold at a live meat market in China town where people come in, pick which animal they want, and they are "processed" in the back and given to the people to take home and eat. One of our young and very brave volunteers went there and bought five live hens back to The Gentle Barn to be spared and live a good life. Drew and the others were scared at first, but with the help of volunteers sitting with them, reading out loud, and singing to them, they soon learned to trust and became part of our cherished and beloved family for many years. Drew sadly passed away in her sleep, we are not sure why as she was perfectly happy and healthy the night before. But we are so grateful to have known, loved and cared for her, and given her the life that all animals deserve!
