Read Danara's Story (In Memoriam)
Danara was a riding horse who loved her person and going out on the trail to look at the view and marvel at nature and explore. She had two riding accidents that resulted in a very swollen knee. She was finally retired from riding but had severe mobility issues. We were asked to take her, and we gladly brought her home to our family. At The Gentle Barn, she got acupuncture, bodywork, massage therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and CBD. She got Sun Chlorella to boost her immune system. We took her on lavish walks. She spent lazy days with her beautiful equine family in the pasture. And she gobbled up bedtime cookies every night. She loved the attention of our guests, and she always held still to be petted with great enthusiasm.
Sadly, the older Danara got the more compromised she became from her original injuries, and even though we tried everything to keep her mobile and comfortable, eventually, it became impossible for her to enjoy the very things that she lived for. It is our job to save and heal animals, but it is also our job to help them out of their bodies when it is time.
When Danara could no longer eat, drink, or socialize comfortably, we helped her out of her body so she could soar in the sky and dance with the wind with no pain at all. We will all miss Danara and are deeply grateful for the time that we had to love her, care for her, and know her.
Danara’s greatest memory was galloping around the pasture with her tail up and her main flowing behind her. She loved what her body could do when her body could do it. At The Gentle Barn, We work hard every day to create a gentler world where horses can live wild and free in great big families, race with the wind, and not have to carry people. One day…
