Read Bingo's Story (In Memoriam)
At The Gentle Barn, we take in animals with nowhere else to go who would otherwise be euthanized. We typically take in older dogs with physical or emotional challenges. Bingo was one of the few dogs we rescued as a puppy. We don’t know where he was born, but at a very tender age, he was tossed over a fence into someone’s yard. The people whose yard it was were in the military and about to be deployed. They sent out an SOS, and we responded by bringing Bingo home to The Gentle Barn.
Understandably, Bingo had a tremendous amount of separation anxiety, and it took us a very long time to heal him. Once Bingo felt safe, secure, and loved, we were all able to see just how tough he was. He was fiercely protective of our daughter Cheyanne and a strong disciplinarian with our other dogs. But as tough as he was, he was also an incredible healer. He always slept under the covers and stayed by our side if we were ever sad or sick. We called him our family’s medicine man.
We had the honor and privilege of being loved by Bingo for almost 17 years. He passed away just two months shy of his 17th birthday. He took care of us all, protected us, and lovingly helped us raise our daughter.
Bingo lived as a reminder to us all that baby animals need time with their moms and need to be committed to and cared for throughout their entire lives. We hope and pray for the day when all dogs will receive the care, love, and protection they deserve.
