Read Azul's Story (In Memoriam)
January 14th, 2018 was a very cold day. Our founders Ellie and Jay made a special trip to Missouri to help us rescue a sheep and a handful of volunteers were here to help. While everyone was here we received a phone call from our neighbor saying there were 11 very friendly turkeys hanging around their home. The neighbors said the turkeys would follow them around outside and they were afraid the turkeys would wonder out into the road. So we loaded up our trailer, volunteers hopped in their vehicles and off we went to investigate. When we got down the street it didn’t take much convincing, we opened the trailer door and they all jumped in. We brought them home, and as soon as we got them into the barn, it started to snow.
We called everyone we could think of, surely these wonderful turkeys had a home and someone was looking for them. After searching high and low there was no one looking for these beautiful turkeys. We found very loving homes for the male turkeys and the females stayed here with us and became our Rainbow Turkeys. Azul would get to live the rest of her life here at the Gentle Barn with her sisters and we would shower them with all the love they could handle.
Azul was the reserved quiet girl in the group. She was independent and more than happy to find sunny spot in the barnyard to take some time to just watch her family enjoy their day. We are so honored to have gotten to love and care for her while she was with us.
