She was hiding in an apple tree behind a store where young kids were throwing things at her. Thankfully our Tennessee barn manager happened to be there, noticed, and rushed in to save her. Apple was brought to The Gentle Barn shaken, scared, and unsure of what was about to happen next. But very quickly she noticed the good food, clean water, soft bedding and realized that she was safe.

We quarantined Apple for thirty days to ensure she was healthy, ran a fecal test, took her to the veterinarian for a check up, and then introduced her to our other birds. I have never seen anyone acclimate as quickly as Apple did. She was instant friends with the other animals, enthusiastically accepted our kindness, and has made The Gentle Barn her home.
Apple is happy, gentle and kind, loves everyone and everything, and is living her very best life. We are grateful to have her with us. She is an example to us all of how to live in gratitude and joy each and every day. We are hoping that this rescue not only changed Apple's life, but set an example to the boys teasing her of how to step up as heroes in the face of innocence. For the rest of her life, we know that Apple will work alongside us at The Gentle Barn to inspire humans of all ages to be gentle.
