Read Andrew's Story (In Memoriam)
Andrew was one of twenty chicks rescued from a factory farm where he would have been slaughtered at 7 weeks old, along with 120,000 chickens. He was brought to The Gentle Barn Tennessee at just 4 weeks old to live a full life and share his story about the suffering in the poultry industry. While they still have baby blue eyes and are peeping from their moms, the chicks are raised in the dark, on their own feces, and within weeks they go blind and are unable to breathe or walk. Because they are so enormous, the struggle with mobility, heart, and respiratory issues. We lost our sweet Andrew at 8 months old when he could no longer walk or breathe comfortably. We are so thankful to have known him, and that he was able to feel sunshine on his back, breath fresh air, and enjoy soft grass under his feet. He was a great ambassador to chickens everywhere.
