Alice was rescued from Thanksgiving along with four other turkey sisters. They were all nervous and scared of us at first, but soon began to heal and to trust us. Alice was an amazing cuddler who loved to chirp long, deep conversations. She later became best friends with our potbelly pig, Jellie, and the two were inseparable. Jellie passed away of old age late last year and it wasn’t too long after that Alice followed her. Turkeys are genetically engineered to get very big, very fast, so they can be slaughtered at 12 weeks old. When we save them, they are obese by the time they are full grown. This puts a lot of pressure on their legs and heart. They usually only live three or four years. We are extremely grateful that Alice gave us five and a half years to love and care for her. She was a beautiful angel and she left a huge hole in our hearts.
