Protect Gentle Barn's Rescued Animals From Fires

The Tick Fire in 2019 nearly engulfed our Santa Clarita, California animal sanctuary, and roads were blocked, leaving us cut off from help. Evacuating all the animals in time ourselves was a huge challenge, and with so many senior animals, we need to be better prepared for the next inevitable emergency.
As the scorching hot temperatures continue and fire seasons grow more intense, the safety and well-being of the animals at The Gentle Barn are at stake.
Forecasters anticipate this to be the worst fire season ever on record. This summer we've already seen the hottest day ever recorded. The threat of wildfire is always looming, and beyond that the extreme heat can put our animals at risk any time.
To address these urgent needs, we have outlined a plan, which includes:
- A new truck to help us evacuate animals
- Regular brush clearing and tree trimming: One of the most important steps we can take is to keep the brush clear around the sanctuary, minimizing the risk of fire spreading.
- A 5,000 gallon water tank
- Additional specialty pools for the pigs, chickens, emus, and turkeys as well as more shaded structured areas for the cows and horses.
- Misting and sprinkling systems
- And more
