Zeus is turning 11 in April! Please join us for his birthday party on Sunday, April 15th, from 10-2. We will sing to him and there will be cake for everyone.
Zeus is the oldest pig we’ve ever had in the history of The Gentle Barn. Our pigs Biscuit and Bodhi passed away not too long after their 10th birthday, but Zeus is turning 11, and still going strong.
Farm pigs are genetically engineered to get very big, very fast, so they can be slaughtered at 3-6 months, as babies. When we save them and they grow till 3 like they are supposed to, they end up abnormally huge on tiny feet that eventually cannot carry them. Farm pigs usually pass away at around 4 or 5, unlike wild pigs that live till 25.
Over the last 19 years we have worked very hard to increase our pigs life spans. They exercise every day, eat organic fruits and vegetables, and take Sun Chlorella Algae Super Food everyday. We are so happy to spend this much time with Zeus and we look forward to many more years of tummy rubs and tucking him into bed with blankets and kisses.
