By Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn
Nalla was very special to me. I came to the Gentle Barn for my first time right after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went to visit the turkeys and Nalla came right up to me. I sat down and she laid with me and wouldn’t leave my side for 45 minutes. I truly believe she knew there was something going on with me and that I needed her love. Even the volunteers were commenting that they hadn’t seen her like that with any other visitor to date. During chemo I wasn’t allowed to come to the barn because my immune system was too compromised. But when I was done, I went right back to see Nalla. This time, my tumor had been taken out and my chemo was complete. We said hello and cuddled, but Nalla didn’t sit with me like the last time. She knew that I was well and no longer needed her like the last time. Nalla's passing made me sad, but I feel so lucky I had the chance to be in her presence. She was an angel!
Last time I was at the Barn, I met and spent a lot of time with Sun (who I am now sponsoring) and will sponsoring Peggy as well.
Thank you for the incredible place you have created!
