By Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn
This week Jay and I headed to St Louis, Missouri to create our third Gentle Barn! I am so happy that my little childhood dream, created in my small backyard eighteen years ago, is now in three states. Sometimes I am going through my day and then suddenly realize how far we’ve come, and how blessed we are, and I cannot stop smiling!
The property is gorgeous and ready for us to start preparing to bring the cows home. Our top priority right now is to build the fences. We are also setting up the house, office, and Sun Chlorella Healing Center. As soon as our emails and phone lines are set up, we will be organizing volunteer days where we will need your help, so please stay tuned on social media and in future newsletters and we’ll let you know how you can be involved! The faster we work, the faster we can bring Chico and his brothers home, rescue more animals, and open our doors to the public and our programs to the community. We are so excited!
I’m not going to lie: I don’t like traveling. I am terrified of flying and am, by nature, a homebody preferring to stay at home with all my critters rather than go anywhere. Every once in a while, my husband or kids will get me out of the house to do something and I go to give them attention and make them feel special. But truth be told, I’d much prefer cuddling up with a pup, or four, or being out in the barnyard to taking a trip so it’s ironic that my dream is to create Gentle Barns in every state which requires a huge amount of traveling. Between establishing new Gentle Barns, managing my national staff, caring for rescues all over the country, and public speaking, I’ve ended up leaving home a lot. But when I start to panic or feel anxious about traveling, I simply remember that I am living my dream and immediately relax, smile, and feel grateful.
Please help us raise the funds we need to get The Gentle Barn Missouri set up and running. We need one more final push to get this going. If you haven’t given yet, now is a great time to get involved. And if you have given already, would you be willing to give one more time? If you donate now you can submit a suggested name for the cows. If your name wins, you will also get a hand made, crochet, one-of-a-kind doll that looks just like the cow you’ve named! We would not be in Missouri at all if not for your generosity and support. Thank you for enabling us to save the St. Louis Six, purchase a home for them, get it set up, rescue many more animals, and give them the life they deserve! Together we will save lives and spread so much love and happiness!
