By Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn
From a very young age I have always loved animals and I knew that I wanted to help them. I was always that one person who would help stray animals and one time I saw a dog walking on the side of the road and I started crying because I couldn't help it. I first found out about the gentle barn about a year ago when I stumbled across some vines of the cows and pigs and I fell in love. I was so excited because it was around the same time the Gentle Barn in Tennessee was opening up and it was right by my house. Sadly, I was barely able to make it out there until January because I was always busy between track and school. Now I don't care how busy or tired I am and I try to be here every saturday. There is nothing in the world I am excited about waking up at 7:30 am than when I am when going to the gentle barn. So many doors have opened up for me and I have learned so much. Before I came here, I had never had any interactions with farm animals and it wasn't until I was up close and personal with them did I realize how truly beautiful and intelligent they are. Since moving to Tennessee back in 2013 I have always felt out of place and like something was missing and now I feel like I am where I belong. Ive met some incredible people and I love my gentle barn family so much.
