A Gentle Thanksgiving
a poem by KC and Val Smith
To all the young turkeys, we wish to welcome you
To the Gentle Barn where your lives will start new!
You’ll meet chickens and pigs and a peacock and goats
Who all came to live here on similar notes.
And though you’re afraid, we just want you to grasp
That your pain and suffering is now in the past.
At the Gentle Barn, you’ll be safe, a friend and not food
You’ll help us teach others to be gentle, not rude.
And soon we’ll have our special event
That’s sure to fill you with wonderment.
The Guests of Honor is what you will be
People will be in awe of your gentle beauty.
You’ll be loved and cuddled and fed yummy treats
Like pumpkin pie and sweet cranberries!
And afterwards the people will convene
Around a yummy plant-based meal out of a dream.
Our hearts and our tummies will be full to the brim
As we burst with gratitude from within.
A life of gentleness is what we wish for society
We’re so please to welcome you to our family!
